the brothers

This painting was inspired by a real scene of a group of orphaned children walking down the street. To keep them safe and prevent anyone from getting lost, each child holds onto the shoulder of the person in front, following a single adult who leads the way. What at first appears to be an ordinary moment gradually becomes a metaphor for life. We all follow someone or something—our families, traditions, beliefs, mentors, or society itself. Following a path can provide protection, guidance, and a sense of belonging. For some people, this brings comfort and security. For others, it may feel restrictive, raising questions about individuality and freedom…. At what point should we continue following the path laid out before us, and when should we have the courage to forge our own?
