Mevlevi Dancers

The Mevlevi order is famous for what is known as the whirling dance, which lasts for hours, during which the dancers circle around the center of the circle where the sheikh stands, and immerse themselves in sublime spiritual feelings that elevate their souls to a state of spiritual purity, freeing them from worldly emotions and engrossing them in a state of complete ecstasy that distances them from the material world and transports them to the divine realm, as they perceive it.
